StarMakers Costumes & Vintage was created by Ms. Beverly Bishop over 20 years ago in Pasadena, California.  Ms. Beverly’s first love was theater.  She started a small theater company called Jester’s on S Fair Oaks where she directed, produced and costumed all of the theater productions.  She was also the costume designer for productions at the Pasadena Playhouse and the Sierra Madre Playhouse.  

Costuming was her second love as a result StarMakers was born since she had over 4000 sq feet packed with custom-designed costumes!  In the last few years Ms. Beverly stopped working at the theaters and concentrated on renting and selling costumes for the public and school productions as she enjoyed working with kids and teaching them the fundamentals of theatrical acting.

In the summer of 2007 Leisel “Q” Quamie met Ms. Beverly Bishop while Q was costuming and filming an independent film in Altadena, called, “Off the Ledge.”  What started as a simple costume rental turned into a very special juncture in Q’s career, as she stumbled into StarMakers Costume shop, a diamond in the ruff, to rent a costume.   The rental turned into a very special and life altering event.   Q quickly built a special rapport with Ms. Beverly and over the next few months became an apprentice. 

In the summer of 2008 Ms. Beverly became terminally ill and with Ms. Beverly’s instruction Q was the first person her family called to continue her legacy.  With Ms Beverly’s blessing and decree “You can do it, don’t let my light go out,” Q bought StarMakers Costumes & Vintage September 26, 2008!

A year and a half later, Q has worked fervently to transform StarMakers into a costume shop that embodies all areas of theater, TV, film, fashion and image, from make-up appointments to in-house styling and custom designed looks.  Q has also extended services to include acting and art classes for kids and adults, custom Quinceañera dresses, club-wear, corsets, shoes and lingerie for adults.  However, we are increasingly becoming known for our one-of-a-kind costume birthday parties for kids and adults! Our theme parties include Star Wars, to pirate, to Top Model to tea parties, etc. Whether outfitting today’s top executives, celebrities, school and theater productions, or styling America’s Next Top Model, Q lends her keen insight and fashion sense to match each client’s need.
